The investment you make in The Governor's Prevention Partnership today is critical to the well-being of Connecticut's youth. Your participation and financial support for effective prevention initiatives in 2012 will help ensure that our children are safe, successful and drug-free, and better prepared to take their place in the workforce of tomorrow.
The challenges and issues facing our young people affect their ability to be successful in school and in life:
* One in four young people are bullied every day in Connecticut schools.
* Connecticut's youth start drinking before they are 13 years old, and a staggering 50% of high school
students say that downing five or more alcoholic drinks at one time is "no big deal."
* More than 190,000 Connecticut young people are waiting for the guidance and support of a mentor.
* New threats, including cyberbullying and abuse of prescription drug medication, continue to harm our
young people.
With your annual support, The Partnership serves as a leader, convener, trainer, resource, advocate and prevention expert for diverse partners, including parents, youth, community, school, government and business.
In 2011, The Partnership worked to prevent underage drinking, youth substance abuse, and bullying through strategies including youth mentoring, positive youth development, raising awareness through the media and reaching adults and parents with critical prevention information. We met needs, leveraged resources, produced measurable outcomes and led prevention strategies in Connecticut by:
* Reaching 13,678 adults who impacted the lives of over 67,000 young people.
* Awarding more than $100,000 in grants to other prevention organizations.
* Securing $346,362 in private, corporate support to match the state's investment in prevention.
* Disseminating 280 media and public service messages through television, radio, print and on-line, with a
total circulation of over 8 million.
