Connecting With a Mentee Who is Different From You: Diversity Skills for Mentors

The purpose of this training is to help mentor coordinators understand and recognize the importance of cultural competency and how it can lead to a successful mentoring relationship.


Learning Objectives:

  • Identify differences between cultural competency  and cultural awareness;
  • Offer mentors skills and techniques to help bridge cultural differences and to avoid cultural collision (language);
  • Explore and identify perceptions and assumptions about culture;
  • Given strategies and tips for incorporating cultural competency acitivities into mentor trainings.

Primary audience(s):
Mentoring program coordinators and managers.
