MISSION & VISION
MISSION
To keep Connecticut's kids safe, successful and drug-free.
KEY MESSAGES
Behavioral problems, including substance abuse, underage drinking, violence,
bullying and problems at school begin in the elementary grades in Connecticut.
To help ensure that young people are safe, successful and drug-free, The Governor's
Prevention Partnership targets its prevention efforts at the adults who influence
the lives of young people.
Our prevention initiatives are based on factors that have been demonstrated through
research to have a significant influence on positive development during childhood
and adolescence.
Significant prevention factors for youth are:
- A relationship with a mentor
- Schools and campuses that foster academic success
- Communities that create safe and substance free environments
- Opportunities for young people to assume service and leadership roles
- Parents and families who effectively manage their children's behavior and talk to them about drugs and alcohol
- Media campaigns that raise awareness about the issues and positively influence attitudes and behaviors
OUR VISION
To prevent through partnership.
We will accomplish this by strengthening our capacity to marshal knowledge,
resources, and relationships with caring citizens working toward a common goal:
creating a better future for our youth, our communities, and our workplaces in
Connecticut. We cannot achieve this in isolation and so we are dedicated to continuing
our current partnerships and starting new ones.
