2010 Connecticut Mentoring Month

Theme: Kids need YOU!  Care. Share. Mentor!

January is National Mentoring Month. Locally, Governor M. Jodi Rell will proclaim January Connecticut Mentoring Month, as part of a statewide campaign to encourage adults to mentor children in their communities.

In Connecticut, the National Mentoring Month campaign is spearheaded by The Governor's Prevention Partnership and nationally by the
Harvard Mentoring Project, MENTOR and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Mentors are honored at events throughout the state in January.  Highlights of Connecticut Mentoring Month 2010 include:

  • January 16, 2010 - Annual Mentor Day hosted by Central Connecticut State University, with free tickets provided to mentors and their mentees to CCSU's men's and women's basketball games.
  • January 21, 2010 - Thank Your Mentor DayTM - Honor an important mentor in your life. On this day, many Americans will reach out to thank or honor those individuals who encouraged and guided them and had a lasting impact on their lives.  Thank Your Mentor DayTM promotes "Three Ways to Honor Your Mentor": 1) contact your mentor directly to express your appreciation; 2) pass on what you received by becoming a mentor to a young person in your community; and 3) write a tribute to your mentor for posting on Who Mentored You? and on our Facebook page.
  • January 27, 2010 - Annual Mentoring Corporate Honor Roll Breakfast honors 100 businesses for their investment in mentoring Connecticut's Youth.  The breakfast will be held at the Farmington Marriot.  MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership's Vice Chairman of the Board, Marian Heard, will serve as the keynote speaker.
