Student Assistance Team
- Coordinates all elements of the Student Assistance Program
- Supports classroom teachers
- Provides building-level support for students
- Develops and uses a working agreement/ground rules
- Uses team roles and processes effectively
System Development and Promotion
- Describe/promote program to teachers, school staff, parents and students
- Provide education about current issues, policies
- Personalize process by partnering with teachers
- Coordinate school and community resources
- Use media resources to promote program
- Develop new and strengthen existing resources
Intervention Support
- Assist teachers with identification, classroom interventions, and referral into the system
- Notify parents that a referral has been made
- Gather and review data
- Decide whether to monitor or proceed
- Appoint case manager and interviewer
- Conduct strengths and needs interview with the referred student and family
- Assess data
- Develop action plan
- Meet with student and family to review the action plan
- Coordinate action plan implementation with student, family, school and community resources
- Monitor the action plan and maintain appropriate contact with student, family and resources
- Refer case back to SAT if the strategies are not working
- Review and adjust the action plan as needed
- Collaborate with outside resources
- Support students placed in in-patient agencies
- Provide comprehensive re-entry support
- Close the case when the desired outcomes have been met
Assistance Activities & Strategies
Identify opportunities for the student to engage in:
- Healthy adult connections
- Healthy peer connections
- Fun, meaningful and/or altruistic activities
- Groups
Evaluation
- Monitor program vision and goals
- Assess program, student, staff and parent needs
- Maintain appropriate records
- Conduct staff and student satisfaction surveys
- Monitor indicators of student performance
- Evaluate team meetings
