Quality Standards Training
(Mentor screening, orientation and matching, support, retention and recognition)


This two-day interactive workshop draws on the latest research on the qualities and characteristics that can be sought and nurtured in volunteer adults to help them build successful mentoring relationships.  Participants also will learn how to apply program practices and monitoring processes as recommended by MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership's Elements of Effective Practice.  A handbook will be distributed to all participants.

Participants will:

Identify strategies and learn that best practices in:

  1. Mentor Screening
  2. Mentor Orientation
  3. Mentor/mentee matching
  4. Mentor support
  5. Retention
  6. Recogntion

  • Learn how to incorporate the MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership's revised Elements of Effective Practice into mentoring programs to maximize positive impact for youth.
  • Receive resource materials for mentor program development and volunteer management.

Primary audience(s):
School, business, community and faith-based staff members who are responsible for running a mentor program and/or staff who are directly responsible for training mentors.
