RESEARCH AND EVALUATION
Why are we evaluating Student Assistance Programs?
The Governor's Prevention Partnership Student Assistance Programs are deeply
rooted in the science of prevention and early intervention practices. There has
been little attention paid or resources provided to evaluate Student Assistance
Programs (SAP) both nationally and within Connecticut. SAMHSA has recognized
a Model SAP: Residential Student Assistance, demonstrating the effectiveness that
Student Assistance can have on students experiencing social, emotional or behavioral
difficulties that get in the way of their learning process.
The Governor's Prevention Partnership believes strongly in the effectiveness
of our SAP model. We also strongly believe that programs must demonstrate their
effectiveness if we are going to continue using them.
Since 2001, The Governor's Prevention Partnership has undertaken three statewide
SAP evaluation projects in order to begin demonstrating the effectiveness of Connecticut's
SAP model. These efforts have yielded significant results demonstrating the effectiveness
of the SAP; below are results for your review.
