MENTORING’S IMPACT AND INNOVATION

August 2016

Senior Program Director's Message

Dear Colleagues:

As summer winds down and a new school year is about to begin, mentoring program directors are gearing up to serve our state's estimated 18,000 mentees.  Our mentoring team is gearing up, too. We've hired a new Program Coordinator for School-based Initiatives, Denise Marois who is spotlighted in this newsletter. We look forward to introducing her to you in person.

The Partnership staff was busy during the summer attending the most up to date trainings and conferences regarding mentoring. They are highlighted in this newsletter.  During the summer, The Partnership staff attended various mentor and mentee events including a mentor appreciation celebration at Family ReEntry, Inc. in Bridgeport, and the mentee appreciation event of the West Hartford Public Schools mentoring program.  Joining in with you to celebrate the year’s successes was a great way for our team to stay connected to the work that is happening in our state.  Thank you to everyone who invited us!

W.B. Yeats wrote “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” Mentors are doing their part to light that spark and inspire young minds.   Our team is here to provide guidance and ideas on all facets of implementing an effective mentoring program, everything from designing data collection forms and program evaluation, to mentor recruitment, support and utilizing the MentorCore data system. With new tips and tools in the works, we hope to serve you better than ever.

Sincerely,

Roland Harmon
