STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Student Assistance Program is a school-based prevention and early intervention
program for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. It involves a process
that interrupts behaviors of concern and influences change in a positive direction
by including purposeful activities that strengthen the individual and his or her
environment.
The Student Assistance Program comprises the following elements:
- Student Assistance Team
- System Development and Promotion
- Intervention Support
- Assistance Activities and Strategies
- Evaluation
The Governor's Prevention Partnership employs a capacity-building approach when
helping schools start a new program. Teams attend a multiple day, basic team
training that builds their skills to design and implement a Student Assistance
Program. Using research and best practices as the foundation, we support schools
to create a rationale for the program, practice action planning and decide on
the program's logistics, goals, objectives, policies, operating procedures and
evaluation tools.
The Governor's Prevention Partnership offers training, technical assistance and
online resources for school staff that would like to set up a student assistance
program. The following are our training services:
- Basic Team Training
- Individual Team Member Training
- Advanced Student Assistance Training
