Student Assistance Basic Team Training:
Meeting the Needs of the Whole Student Using an SRBI-Friendly Framework

Here's a challenge educators often face - a student begins to display behaviors of concern.  Maybe her grades drop.  Perhaps he is withdrawn.  Other common issues may be truancy, disruptive behavior or substance abuse.  The Student Assistance Program offers an answer.  It's a prevention and early intervention program for elementary, middle and high schools characterized by a team approach to providing multi-tiered supports, consistent with CT's Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) model. The Student Assistance Team - usually composed of administrators, teachers, psychologists, counselors, nurses and social workers - accepts referrals  of students who are exhibiting behaviors that interfere with their success. The team gathers information and then develops a plan that builds on the student's strengths and meets the student's needs.

During this 2-day training, participants will:

  • Apply best practices for effective team functioning.
  • Develop you school's referral process
  • Create measurable action plans for students based on their strengths and needs
  • Develop a list of multi-tiered assistance and activities, including school and community resources
  • Understand how Student Assistance can mesh with existing school-based prevention.
