Prevent Underage Drinking & Substance Abuse

"When information about retailers who were selling to minors was brought to our attention following The Partnership's compliance check, we immediately sent those retailers letters reminding them of the teen drinking rates in West Hartford and reinforcing the importance of proper identification checks. Our association with The Partnership is a key component to the work we do on behalf of keeping kids safe in our community."
- West Hartford Substance Abuse Prevention Commission

Our drug abuse prevention experts monitor the latest research and trends, putting themselves ahead of the action. Then, we turn that research into usable information and tools through our precise and timely program three-way development process.

Raising Awareness
Working with you, we raise further awareness of the dangers associated with underage drinking and drug abuse, and help to stem the tide of affected teens. Media outreach helps parents educate their children making them 50 percent less likely to use drugs and alcohol. Reaching more than 55,000 Connecticut students each year, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is another avenue used to help spread prevention messaging.

Building Community Prevention Strategies
We support local community action by mobilizing coalitions of concerned citizens, as well as helping them to identify needs and develop innovative solutions. We use the science of prevention and evaluation data to guide community strategic plans.

We conduct compliance checks of alcohol outlets, support underage drinking laws, raise public awareness about the dangers of prescription drug abuse, and implement effective community and school prevention strategies.

We guide coalition coordinators, educators and parents by creating prevention information and materials to help adults talk to youth about underage drinking and drug abuse, including our recent publication "A Parent’s Guide To Preventing Underage Drinking".

Working Directly With Parents and Youth
Our team of experts create and build strong and vibrant partnerships in the areas of prevention, intervention and treatment through The Partnership at DrugFree.org and The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to support you in your community. We partner with The Connecticut Coalition to Stop Underage Drinking to drive public policy, and promote youth leadership opportunities supporting Students Against Destructive Decision(SADD) in schools and communities throughout the state.
