Eastern Connecticut Mentoring Collaborative
The Eastern Connecticut Mentoring Collaborative began in June 2017 and is one of five in the State of CT. The Eastern Connecticut Mentoring Collaborative (ECMC), led by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, is a network of schools, youth service bureaus, nonprofits, faith communities and grassroots efforts to increase connections, quality and capacity so that young people in eastern Connecticut may have access to caring mentors. As an initiative under the Community Foundation’s strategic priority of youth empowerment, the ECMC has been offering twice yearly “Lunch & Learns” on topics ranging from recruiting mentors to cultural competency to trauma-informed mentoring. These events are free and open to anyone interested in mentoring-focused learning and networking in Eastern Connecticut. A steering committee, comprised of representatives from the Governor’s Prevention Partnership, the New London Public Schools, LifeFAQs, Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau, EASTCONN and New England Science & Sailing, meets regularly with Foundation staff to develop the ECMC and plan capacity-building programs.
